HISTORY OF INTERNET

The internet has gained immense popularity and emerged as an important and efficient means of communication. The idea of introducing the Internet was to allow people to share information using their computers across the world. In 1962, J.C.R Licklider first proposed the development of a global network of computers. The same year, he moved to Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency(DARPA) to develop the network. Another scientist, Leonard Kleinrock, developed the theory of packet switching, which was used as a basis for the Internet connections. In 1969, the sicentist at DARPA succeeded in networking two computers, Known as ARPANET( Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), which was based on packet switching. ARPANET was developed as a means of communication for the United States military services.
ARPANET was a big success. This invited the attention on the National Science Foundation (NSF), as US federal agency for creation a contemporary better high capacity network. Ir was called the NSFnet. However, one drawback of meant that private and public businesses could not use it. Therefore, private organizations and people started to build their own networks, which were later interconnected with ARPANET and NSFnet to form the Internet.
After the evolution of the internet, ARPANET was shut down in 1990 and NSFnet was discontinued in 1995.

Uses of the Internet

Internet has undergone a phenomenal growth scince the last decade. From searching for information to downloading music and videos, sending and receiving e-mail messages to communicate with friends, and conducting everyday tranctions. The Internet has become an integral part of our lives. The Internet has evolved as a fast and economically feasible mode of communication. Apart form this, it is one of the best sources of news and latest happenings around the world, which is being constantly updated in real time. 


Surfing and Searching the Internet

You must have heard people talking about surfing or browsing the internet. Surfing means moving form one website to the other using a web browser. Searching the Internet means exploring various websites and web pages on the Internet for the desired information. In other words, searching is a process of finding information on a particular topic from different websites. Surfing is also a part of  searching because to find the desired information. You have to move from one website to the other on the Internet. Without surfing, there cannot be any Internet searching. Therefore, we can say that surfing is an essential aid for searching the internet.

E-mail or electronic mail is a service that helps you to communicate with other people on the internet.

How we can accessing the Internet?

As you already know, the Internet is a network that can be accessed form anywhere in the world. However, before you access the Internet, you need to have an Internet connection. you can subscirbe for an Internet connection form an Internet service provider(ISP). The ISP provides you the settings, such as username and password, which you need to configure the Internet connection on your computer. There are a number of factors that should be considered while choosing an Internet connection.
